Celebrating Native Women at Oklahoma City Indian Clinic’s Annual Women’s Health Fair

Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) hosted its annual Women’s Health Fair, which attracted over 100 attendees, provided a broad range of essential health care services, offering a safe space for Native women to prioritize their physical and mental health.

Empowering Native Women Through Accessible Health Care

At the fair, participants had access to vital medical services, such as vaccinations, mammograms, dental care, and OB-GYN wellness checks. Beyond the health care offerings, the event also encouraged community connection, with attendees engaging with local partners, enjoying a photo booth, and participating in raffles.

The importance of events like the Women’s Health Fair is underscored by research from the National Partnership for Women and Families, which highlights significant disparities in maternal health. Factors like poverty, inadequate living conditions, and food insecurity have a disproportionate impact on Native women, creating a higher risk of adverse health outcomes.

OKCIC is acutely aware of these challenges and continues to work toward addressing the systemic barriers that contribute to these inequalities.

“Events like the Women’s Health Fair are essential to Oklahoma City’s Native community because they help identify and address health gaps in our population,” said Dr. Tyler Freeman, OKCIC’s Director of Family Medicine and Specialty Services. “The fair gives patients an opportunity to prioritize their health at no cost, supported by trusted medical professionals who provide culturally sensitive care.”

With a focus on improving health equity, OKCIC remains dedicated to expanding access to care for Native women. The clinic is proud of the positive impact of this year’s health fair and looks forward to continuing its efforts to serve even more women in the future.
