Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) recently welcomed Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to its Native Resource & Nutrition Center, where his visit coincided with a gathering of tribal nations and health leaders committed to strengthening Native health. Representatives from Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Chickasaw Nation, Cherokee Nation and Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, along with Indian Health Service, joined together to highlight the power of collaboration in addressing health disparities.
Creating Awareness, One Conversation at a Time
At OKCIC, we believe in sharing our story and advocating for our community whenever possible. By addressing important issues, such as access to healthy foods, we foster understanding and open dialogue. Each time we speak out, we build awareness and move closer to meaningful change.
Building Healthier Communities Together
The Native Resource & Nutrition Center shows what can be achieved when communities work together. By providing access to nutritious foods, culturally significant ingredients, and essential social services, the center supports food security while also connecting families to housing, transportation, veterans programs, job opportunities, and childcare.
The presence of tribal nations and Indian Health Service leaders highlighted the importance of working together to strengthen Native health. Their collaboration ensures that efforts extend beyond the clinic’s walls, building bridges to resources and care across Oklahoma.
Looking ahead, OKCIC plans to expand the center by adding an in-house dietitian and growing partnerships that connect patients to programs like SNAP and employment services. These steps will further strengthen the clinic’s role as a hub for nutrition, wellness, and holistic care.
The Native Resource & Nutrition Center is more than a food hub, it represents a commitment to building a healthier future for Native people, one household at a time.
