Whether you’re scheduled for an X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, or mammogram, a little preparation can make your imaging appointment smoother, faster, and more accurate. Here are five simple tips to help you get the best results and feel more confident walking in.
- Wear Comfortable, Simple Clothing
Choose loose, easy-to-remove clothing without metal—such as zippers, snaps, or underwire. Metal can interfere with many imaging types, leading to delays or
repeated images. Wearing comfortable clothing also helps you move more easily during positioning. - Stay Hydrated (When Allowed)
Good hydration supports better imaging quality for many exams, particularly CT studies. Unless you have been instructed to fast, drink plenty of water before your appointment. Hydration also helps
your veins be more accessible if contrast is needed. - Bring Prior Images and Reports
If you’ve had imaging done at another facility, bring copies of your previous studies or let us know where we can request them from. Comparing past and current images helps radiologists identify changes, avoid unnecessary repeat exams, and provide more accurate interpretations. - Know Your Medical History
Be prepared to share key details about your health, such as allergies, past surgeries, or any conditions your technician should be aware of. This information helps the imaging team tailor the exam to your needs and ensure your safety, especially if contrast or special positioning is required. - Ask Questions, Your Radiology Care Team Is There to Help
Never hesitate to ask questions before, during or after your appointment. Understanding what to expect can reduce anxiety, help you follow instructions more easily, and ensure your results are as accurate as possible.
