OKLAHOMA CITY – Pro Football Hall of Famer and sports analyst Terry Bradshaw served as the keynote speaker for the virtual Champions of Health Awards on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit clinic providing health and wellness services to American Indians in central Oklahoma, was selected as a Champion of Senior Health winner for providing excellent health care to elder American Indians and Oklahomans.
“Our Elder’s Health program provides much needed services and support to the most vulnerable, and respected members of the Native community with no cost to them,” Robyn Sunday-Allen said, CEO of OKCIC.
The Elder’s Health program provides clients with access to social support, extended appointments for comprehensive needs assessments, treatment planning, in-house mammography services, a dentures program, and more. A new service OKCIC began offering in 2019 was the annual Elder’s Health Fair. This health fair offers life-saving screenings, immunizations, age appropriate education and more. OKCIC also began hosting Elder’s Honor Day, which hosts guest speakers discussing elder safety, aging support resources and more. Last, but not least, an Elder’s Council was established as an outlet for elders to provide each other with social support.
The 17th annual Champions of Health Awards, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma, honors individuals and organizations working to improve the health of Oklahomans. All sponsorship proceeds from the virtual event benefit The Oklahoma Caring Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that provides Oklahoma children with immunizations at no charge through its Caring Van program.
“Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is honored to be selected as the Champions of Senior Health Awards winner,” Sunday-Allen said.
