Oklahoma City Indian Clinic to host annual Red Feather Fundraiser

News & Announcements

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Indian Clinic’s (OKCIC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit clinic providing health and wellness services to American Indians in central Oklahoma, annual Red Feather Gala will look a little different this year.

OKCIC’s Red Feather Virtual Fundraiser will be held virtually from November 7 through 14, 2020, at redfeathergala.com. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to visit the website to register for the auction, and look at partnership opportunities.

This event will raise funds for OKCIC’s Project DATA (Delivering & Advancing Technology Access), which will provide health, wellness and educational technology to our pediatric patients.

“Children are facing many challenges this school year,” Robyn Sunday-Allen said, CEO of OKCIC. “One challenge that many of our patients face is a lack of technology, specifically tablets that will help Native American children succeed at school. Without this technology children will fall behind, or be forced to remain in school where they are at a heightened risk for exposure to the novel coronavirus.”

Many of OKCIC’s 5,000 school-aged pediatric patients are being raised by grandparents or are in multi-generational homes. While the novel coronavirus is not likely to be life threatening to children, it could be very dangerous to family members, many of which have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.

Providing technology to pediatric patients will also allow them to participate in the many virtual activities at OKCIC. These after-school activities and camps are designed to promote health and prevent diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. Tablets will also give families access to virtual medical visits when needed.

“Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is dedicated to reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus,” Sunday-Allen said. “This is just one of our many efforts to lessen the spread and keep our community safe.”

Each donation of $5,000 will help deliver and advance technology access to roughly 25 pediatric patients and their families. For more information, please visit redfeathergala.com or email angie.c@okcic.com.
