Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) recently marked its 50th anniversary with a vibrant cultural celebration held at the First Americans Museum. The milestone event, honoring the clinic’s decades of dedicated service to the Native American community, brought together patients, families, community members, and supporters for a day filled with tradition, connection, and gratitude.
A Day for Everyone
The celebration was lively and diverse, featuring live music, Native dance performances, and an art market that showcased local Native artistry and craftsmanship. Guests enjoyed a variety of foods, and activities designed for all ages added to the festivities. Children had a chance to play in bounce houses, participate in water activities, and enjoy games such as stickball.
Oklahoma City Community Comes Together to Celebrate
Native princesses and dancers from across the Oklahoma City area brought an extra layer of culture and entertainment to the celebration, reflecting the richness of Native traditions and reinforcing the sense of community that OKCIC has fostered over the years.
The event would not have been possible without the support of numerous community partners. OKCIC expressed gratitude to organizations such as Rock the Native Vote, the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board, Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, and the Alzheimer’s Association, among others. Special thanks were extended to Feed The Children and the Chickasaw Nation, which contributed 800 boxes of essential food and hygiene items to families in need.
50 Years Providing Excellent Health Care to American Indians
Founded in 1974, OKCIC began as the first urban Indian health clinic in Oklahoma City, with a small facility on Hudson Avenue. What started as a modest effort to provide health care to a limited number of patients has since grown into a vital resource, now serving over 24,000 individuals annually. OKCIC’s evolution reflects the clinic’s enduring commitment to expanding access to health care and improving the well-being of Native American families across the region.
With a dedication to delivering excellent health care, it stands out by offering innovative services and embracing culturally sensitive care that sets it apart from other high-quality healthcare providers.
