Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) hosted its annual Elder’s Health Fair in October 2023.
OKCIC’s Elder’s Health Fair had over 76 elder attendees. Patients aged 60 and up received many services, including, health information, education, immunizations, oral cancer screenings and other medical services specific to elder health.
Elders are the pillar of the Native community
The goal of the Elder’s Health Fair was to empower Native American elders to proactively pursue healthy lifestyle choices through educational awareness and opportunities to receive the care needed.
Health fair attendees received informational handouts, giveaways and support from community partners. There were also opportunities for Tai Chi and nutrition education classes, as well as connecting with other elders in the Native American community. Giveaways included spin toothbrushes, gas cards and other prizes.
Community partners ranged from legal information to aging and protective services. OKCIC would like to thank the following Elder’s Health Fair community partners: My HealtheVet • VA Native American Nurse Navigator • National Indian Council on Aging • OKC Alzheimer’s Association • Abbott • AARP • Humana • Blue Cross Blue Shield • Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative • Oklahoma Indian Legal Services • OKCIC staff • NewView Oklahoma
