Kids in the Kitchen is a great way to introduce children to new foods and harness their creativity.
During the class, kids learn about healthy eating and food safety tips while cooking fun food that they enjoy.
Children ages 6-to-11 years of age participate and learn about food safety, knife techniques and healthy cooking skills. Oklahoma City Indian Clinic also offer Kids in the Kitchen Junior for kids ages 4-to-8 years old. This class is modified towards younger kids with a similar concept as the older age group.
Participants will prepare and cook their own lunch and snack, but will also spend time on educational and physical activities. Past Kids in the Kitchen classes have made everything from healthy Mexican food, personal pizzas and Christmas cookies.
By learning to be a kitchen helper, children are able to gain confidence in the kitchen that will increase food acceptance and safety.
The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention department provides more than cooking classes for children. Their services include seasonal camps, after-school activities, one-on-one dietary counseling for youth and adults, and more.
