Keith Coast, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, has spent more than 26 years delighting children and families as a magician. He has traveled to 48 states and 18 countries, performing at libraries, schools, churches, concerts, and community events. While he dedicated himself to serving others, he often put his own health last.
In June 2023, during one of his first clinic visits, he learned that his A1C level placed him in the prediabetic range. The A1C test measures average blood sugar levels over the previous three months and helps assess the risk of developing diabetes.
A Wake-Up Call to Action
The diagnosis served as a wake-up call, and he responded immediately. He began working with a personal trainer at Oklahoma City Indian Clinic’s (OKCIC) Wellness Center and quickly took advantage of other clinic resources.
His progress did not come from one area alone. He also credits OKCIC’s dietitians and life coaches for helping him stay on track.
A Life Transformed
Over the next three years, he reversed his prediabetes diagnosis, lost more than 30 pounds, and gained significant energy. He now feels stronger both physically and mentally, with greater stamina for performances and renewed confidence in his overall health. Friends and family frequently remark on how much healthier he looks—a meaningful reminder of his hard-earned progress.
Giving Back with Purpose
Grateful for the support, he looked for ways to give back and connected with OKCIC’s TURTLE Camp, a program that teaches children healthy habits through hands-on activities, movement, and positive role models. At TURTLE Camp, he performs the W.H.O.A. Show, a magic show encouraging kids to explore, imagine, and try new things. He even brings along his tortoise, Tortilla, to promote healthy food choices.
